Bone Strengthening and balancing workshop

Building bone strength and improving balance.

According to the NHS “Osteoporosis affects over 3 million people in the UK. More than 500,000 people receive hospital treatment for fragility fractures (bones that break after falling from standing height or less) every year as a result of osteoporosis.”

Losing bone is a normal part of ageing, but some people lose bone much faster than normal. Women also lose bone rapidly in the first few years after the menopause but also long-term use of certain medicines can affect bones strength or hormone levels.

The great news for us that practice yoga is that the body will lay down bone if a tendon, ligament or tissue becomes tight and puts increased tension at the attachment site. We do this when we stretch our muscles in yoga. Yay!

This workshop will look at how we can build bone strength but also how we can work on bone quality, balance and our body’s resilience. We want to challenge the body so that we can create forces that build more bone but in a safe effective way and then use what we have learnt in our daily lives.
